We attended the open house for "JOURNEY HOME", Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency's first shelter for runaway and homeless youth. United Way of Rome is funding the 24 hour hotline for displaced adolescents to call for help. The shelter is located at the former St. Mary's rectory at 210 W. Liberty Street, Rome, next door to the church. It will be able to host up to six youth up to age 18. Though a child can be referred to the agency from any organization, the child must make the call themselves to get in the program. It is the first of its kind in Oneida, Madison and Herkimer counties. The youth, male and female alike, will be able to stay at the shelter for up to 21 days. For more program information please call 315-525-7276 or 315-624-9930.
